Music: Sittin' on the dock of the bay-Otis Redding
Ahoy ladies, this spring promises to throw those boring basics overboard, so that you can become the captain of stripes, anchors, and so much gold you'd make Mr.T extremely jealous. This season brings a familiar tide of nautical trends which have evolved every year, each time bolder and edgier.
Now lets make this clear, I'm not endorsing any replicas of Sailor Moon, lets not get costumey guys!
Don't be afraid to be whimsical with this trend, its more so permission to be playful all the
while remaining tasteful, BUT DON'T FORGET , emphasis on the word TASTEFUL!
<-----A major no,no!!
What makes this trend so great is the fact that it's both effortless and yet still can be structured and well put together, all the while feeling breezy. Which brings me to my next point, my go-to feels for fashion(inspired by New York of course) Downtown and Uptown. Each are simple, each can be fun, and always always chic. Now I tend to lean more towards the downtown, don't wanna let people know I give a damn about what I'm wearing, when secretly I do, kinda style ;) All in the spirit of being honest right! Anyway, my suggestions may not float everyones boat, but here we go
Navy Blue, with polka dots, stripes, or solid is fair game as shown above, my favorite trend this season is the jumper/romper for the spring/summer, so I put that one first!
Don't be afraid of stripes, I know its a bit of a risk for some, I swear I'm a little iffy about it too, but I absolutely loved the relaxed loose fit of this particular example, just because the sleeves are somewhat long and slimming, and the stripes become subtle due to the solid navy blue on the chest, it works. This is oversized done right, because there is still some structure, remember that! I don't care what Mary Kate and Ashley try to pull....
Ah and last, the classic navies, causal and comfy. Not too tight, but still for fitting, the awesome advantage is the added lengthening of the legs, and if you're 5 "4 like me, you know that's a definite plus. Beginning with the high waist, down to the ankles, throw in some heels, and Ta Da!!! I gather that some are immediately thinking that you're gonna hit the mom jeans zone, and honestly, it very well may be the case for some women, but remember to try it out first, taking on new waters, never hurts ;)
ok ok ok so I'm done blabbing, but I'm glad I brought this whole nautical theme up, as I'm sure you're seeing it everyyyywhereeee, I've always loved it, and I hope you do too!
till next time matess... this ship has sailed....
